Sanding/Priming A Hood
I recently replaced the hood on my Prelude and since I the old one is extremely scratched and whatnot, I figured it would be perfect to experiment with. I have zero bodywork experience so I figure this is a good opportunity for me to get my hands dirty. Just wanted to know if there are any tips or suggestions that you guys have that will help me out. Thanks.

Depending on how you got it. If it has paint on it and you want to paint it to match your car's color, simply remove the clearcoat with a rough scotch brite pad (for vehicles), then inspect for any dings and dents. If there is some stuff that needs to be filled, use putty for small dings and body filler for larger ones. Use putty if needed after body filler too. Lots of sanding later you should have it ready for sealer/primer.
Use a sealer if original paint is significantly different than yours, if not just primer should work. If you have the tools, use a 1000 grit sand paper on a DA sander instead of scotch pad, it will be faster. Any more tips, let me know. __________________ ![]() |
