Kia Forte Koup window freezes in winter

Just bought the 2010 kia forte koup it's a nice car but my window keeps freezing. Infact go through drivethrough but that wasn't a concern until I got pulled over yesterday and was not able to open the window. To add to the risk of getting shot my windows are tinted. Anyone has experienced the same thing?

Welcome to IronPiston!

Never heard of the windows locking up on them before. Especially since it is a pretty new car. Have you thought about taking it to the dealership? Or did you plan on trying to fix it yourself?

Do you think the motor is totally dead, or do you think something it "holding" it in place. I can try to guide you through repair, if i have enough details.

I'm assuming it's cold where you are. Car windows do freeze specially after a car wash on a cold day. Temporary solution would be to spray a little bit of WD40 after a wash. More short-term permanent solution would be to somehow lubricate the rubber coverings.

05eclipse05 lives in texas so he probably has never experienced a frozen window but I have used a silicone lubricant paste in the past and it works great.

It doesn't matter if I get a car wash. I park my car outside and mostly after overnight it freezes up. I'll try to find some lubricant. Wouldn't wd40 damage my paint though?

Yes it pretty cold here in Winnipeg. I've never experienced frozen window even on my old car but could it be possible that the motor is too weak to break the thin layer of ice after a frosty night?

Frost will do it, specially if the temperature rises and then drops, softening the snow and then hardening it to ice. But thin layers shouldn't seize the window though, you might want to get the motor checked out. Also, it could be a weak motor by design if all 4 windows act the same way.

I got this silicon lubricant called lubrica but it's not a tube paste but it's a spray type can. Should I put it at the bottom of the window where the window goes in or at the top where window glass meets the frame?

Ideally you want to put it on the upper side because the window has to pull and break apart when it's frozen and would make sense to work best there. But if that doesn't work then you can try putting it at the bottom as well.

Be generous with the lube on the top of the window, it wont hurt. Be weary of the bottom though. There are electrical components in your door, and you wouldn't want the lube to ruin anything. Though i don't see that happening unless spray the whole can into the door structure.

But yes, test the other windows as well. Make sure that the effect isn't similar all around.

Also make sure you free up the window before lubricating it, like go to a car wash where it's warmer.
