Modified truck needs to pass E-test..
I'm gonna be moving from Manitoba to Southern Ontario, so I'll have to get my 1998 chev 1500 4x4 E-tested. Thing I'm worried about is while its in perfect mechanical shape the engine is a 383 stroker, comp full roller valve train including 1.6 ratio rockers & duel springs,Cam, heads redone and moded to allow for higher lift, bbk 80mm throttlebody, dual fuel nelson tune, intake, headers, true dual exhaust(will need to put Cats back on it) 70,xxx on the engine. So If I throw the Cats back on the truck would I have a chance of passing or am i screwed? Is there any tips and tricks to passing?
Also how strict are the cops on tires sticking out beyond the fenders? Summer tires stick out about 1.5-2.5inches. Damn E-testing, here we have nothing; just the occasional VIU(vehicle inspection unit) checkstop. ![]() |

cats should do the etest pass but remember if it's on the machine and if it fails MTO will know right away. I don't think there's any issues with 1.5 to 2 inches of tire sticking out, I've seen... stickier on the roads of Toronto.
There are tips on passing but I'm not liable for anything. There are some rotten people who would put their own car on test and get it to pass, but that's very risky. __________________ ![]() |

It's not just the cats you need to have all the emissions systems have to be on the truck. So EGR, EVAP, CATs PCV and so on. There can be no check engine light on and they also test the gas cap. Your best bet it to install the cats and give it a try. Then if it doesn't pass you should look for someone that would "make it pass".

Sorry for the late reply been very busy as of late with work and other things going on in life, id run a full exhaust system cats mufflers everything even if its just to pass the safety and do whatever u want afterwards, some people even have 2 sets of exhaust systems for this particular instance one for etest only and one for power/sound thats on fulltime, if u have 2 sets of keys id suggest keeping the truck running up until your etest time, cold will produce alot more emission and lessen the chance of passing, warm is your best bet, and as for the tires sticking out the legal limit is 2 inch out but ive seen alot more and cops dont usually have a tape measure in their car let alone know how to actually use one, but the measurement is the farthest point the tires stick out so 1.5-2.5 max out really shouldnt be a problem but if u happen to get pulled over dont give the cop any reason to give u more tickets then needed by being a prick to them really lol but i would make sure your exhaust system is full not missing anything cats, mufflers, etc just run as close to stock as possible and then after your etest, im not suggesting it but run straight pipes or whatever your choice may be after the etest
